Washington Briefs:
Lung Cancer Alliance and Parnters
Send Letter to Congress
Urging Delay of District Work Period
Washington, DC [July 29, 2009] -- Today Lung Cancer Alliance and the Cancer Leadership Council sent a letter to Congress urging leaders of both parties to delay the summer district work period, better known as the "August recess", until work is finished on comprehensive health care reform legislation.
The letter, directed to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), cited several independent polls that show overwhelming American support for some form of health care reform. It calls on Congress to reconcile several different health reform bills in order to present and pass a cohesive and comprehensive reform package this year.
Lung Cancer Alliance will continue to monitor the debate surrounding health care reform. Stay tuned to Lung Cancer Alliance's health reform update page for new information. To read the letter to Congress, click here.
