A Message for Fathers from Lung Cancer Alliance
Friday, June 15, 2007-- This Father's Day, fathers who are at high risk for lung cancer could give themselves and their families a present by considering a CT scan. After heart disease, lung cancer is the leading cause of death among American men, taking more lives each year than prostate, colon, pancreatic cancers and leukemia combined.
People at high risk for lung cancer include current and former smokers, close family members of people diagnosed with lung cancer, veterans exposed to Agent Orange and depleted uranium and those who worked around asbestos, beryllium and other carcinogens.
Increasing amounts of data being released from large, long term studies carried out in the United States, Europe and Japan clearly indicates that survival rates dramatically increase when lung cancer is diagnosed early with CT scanning.
If you are a father at risk for the disease, ,talk to your doctor about getting a scan at a well-established center with experienced professionals and a well-tested protocol for making an accurate diagnosis.
